To get the most out of your experience on Yaga, we have created a guide to bring you the recipe for a perfect listing. There are a couple of things you need to know to boost your chances of sales and grow a base of satisfied buyers that will keep coming back for more purchases.
Are you ready to become a valued seller and take your shop to the next level?
PHOTOS
They say that a picture is worth a thousand words and we couldn’t agree more! We recommend investing the time to taking good photos of your items that build trust, demonstrate the item in full and attract customers. We’ll take you through the details.
1. THE LIGHTING
Always prefer taking photos in a natural (day-)light since flash or direct sunlight might distort the colours. You can always adjust the brightness and tone (warm-cold) before uploading the image to make sure that the colour of the item remains true to life.
2. THE BACKGROUND
Make sure the item you’re selling is on the foreground and the background is free of any excess noise, such as a messy bed, colourful sheets or other pieces of furniture. Have a look around in your room and find a clear wall (or even a door) to use as a background that lets your items pop.
3. WEARING THE ITEM
Wearing the item on yourself / a model allows the buyer to get a better vision of how the item might sit on them, how does the fabric hold, what’s the length etc. So whenever possible get someone to take a picture of you or just take it in front of the mirror.
4. ITEM IN FULL SIZE
Make sure that on at least one of your photos the item being sold is seen in full lenght. This is important for the buyer to get a full overview of the item and avoid future confusion. Detailed shots are also welcome, but if you don’t have at least one full sized shot then it might cost you a sale.
DESCRIPTION
It is super important to use the Description field to give out as much information as possible and use all the relevant keywords. Also, make sure to add as many tags as possible to help shoppers find your item. Brand, colour, size - add what you can!
1. THE SEARCH RESULTS
Did you know that the items on Yaga’s Search are partly displayed by the keywords that are included in the description? You can also think of related keywords that are relevant to your item and that people might search for. So for jeans you could also add “denim” to increase your chances of it reaching the buyer. So remember - if your item is missing a proper description then it’s appearance in search might be limited.
2. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Always give truthful information about the condition of the item and point out any kind of defects it might have. If the item turns out to be not true to description, then the Buyer has the right to return it to the Seller. It is also good to always tag the Brand name when adding an item and add any sort of comments you might have (oversized fit; extra soft material; shoes are not true to size etc).
3. THE RIGHT CATEGORY
There are several categories and sub-categories on Yaga. When adding an item make sure to fill in as many fields as you can. This way it will be displayed next to similar items as a suggestion and will pop up in search.
4. LUXURY BRANDS
On Yaga, only authentic (original) luxury items can be sold. When selling items from brands that are considered luxury (Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Guess, Dior etc) try to add as much information proving the item’s origin as possible. If the item turns out falsely described then the Buyer has the right to return the item and the Seller is obligated to take it back.
5. BOOKS
If you’re selling some good reads then make sure to add it under relevant categories, as well as include the name and the author of the book in the description area to make it appear in Search.
What else is important?
RIGHT PRICEPOINT
Selling second hand creates a certain expectation for the prices. The item you are selling must be considerably lower in price than it was when first purchased to create a value for the buyer. After all - would you be more happy to send your item to a happy new owner and gain some extra cash or have it up for sale forever?
LET YOUR FRIENDS KNOW
We all have friends who’s style we LOVE. Wouldn’t you be happy to find out that they’re selling some of their best pieces? The same goes to your friends so create a Story or a post on social media and let your friends know about your shop. This will significantly increase your chances of sales. Oh, and if you tag us you might get featured in Yaga’s channels as well :)
MAKE SURE THE ITEM IS CLEAN
Always send out clean, well-ironed items with no undisclosed flaws. This is crucial for building a loyal customer base that will keep coming back to your Yaga store. Remember, if the item doesn’t match the description, the buyer has the right to return it! Many sellers like to go the extra mile with their packaging as well, often including a thank you card or a little treat to make the buyer’s experience even sweeter.
